SCOTTISH LABOUR CALL FOR PUBLIC INQUIRY INTO LEGIONNAIRES OUT BREAK

Responding to the news that a second person has died after contracting Legionnaires' disease in Edinburgh, Scottish Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, Jackie Baillie MSP, said:

“Our sympathies go out to the family and friends of the latest victim at this tragic time.”

“Whilst there appears to be a slight drop off in the number of people being diagnosed with legionnaires' disease, we have still to identify the source of the outbreak, and must therefore remain vigilant.

“However, once the outbreak has been contained, I would urge the Scottish Government to agree to a public inquiry. I agree with the words of Professor Pennington and this should not have happened. A public inquiry will ensure we learn lessons and try to prevent this happening again.”
