Save Our School Buses

Walk the Route - Save our School Bus

Jackie has been campaigning over the summer with local parents against Argyll and Bute Council's decision to withdraw free school transport for pupils living within a 2 miles radius.

After completing Walk the Routes with children in Helensburgh and Arrochar, Jackie has written to the Council on several occasions disputing the safety of these routes.

In Arrochar, where the saftey issues are most pressing, Jackie has been working with parents to get the Council to review their decision.  Unfortunately to date the Council have not been forthcoming.  The main safety concerns relate to the A83 trunk road.  The Council expects the pupils to cross a 60mph road, and walk along road where the pavements are either very narrow or non-existent.

Most infuriating for parents across the Helensburgh and Lomond area is that many of the buses are not running to full capacity, indeed some are running virtually empty.  This is deeply infuriating for parents who are having to walk their children to school as a half empty bus drives past.
