BAILLIE: EVERY WOMAN WITH PiP IMPLANTS DESERVES FREE CORRECTIVE SURGERY Scottish Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, Jackie Baillie MSP, has secured a meeting with the Health Secretary to meet the women affected by PiP implants to explore possible solutions. Ms Baillie intends to invite women affected to the meeting, such as Trisha Devine who has been told she must pay for her own corrective surgery – surgery she simply can’t afford. Scottish Labour is calling for every woman with PiP implants in Scotland to be given free corrective surgery. Ms Baillie said that private providers should not be “let off the hook”, but said the NHS in Scotland should stand ready to step in as a last resort. Scottish Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Health, Jackie Baillie MSP, said: “Regardless of the name above a clinic door – every woman affected deserves to be treated fairly. That means every provider of cosmetic surgery fulfilling its duty of care and offering free corrective surgery. It is shameful that some private clinics are refusing to do so. Private providers should not be let off the hook. “Women like Trisha Devine, who has been told she must pay for her own corrective surgery that she simply can’t afford, find themselves in an impossible situation. Trisha is not alone. No woman should be left in a position where she is worrying about her health, and has no peace of mind, but is unable to afford to do anything about it. I am pleased the Health Secretary has agreed to meet with me and the women affected to discuss possible solutions. “We must make sure this never happens again. As a next step we are calling for better regulation of the industry and a register of patient implants to be introduced.” |
