Bus services in Scotland are not good enough. There has been a failure in the market forces which have dominated the bus industry since de-regulation in 1986. It's time for a fairer deal on buses. That's why I am supporting Charlie Gordon's proposal for the Regulation of Bus Services (Scotland) Bill. This Bill will make it easier for local councils to step in and regulate services by putting franchises for local bus services out to tender. The Bill will also extend free bus travel to people on the lower rate of Disability Living Allowance, as well as allowing...

I have recently joined forces with the Poverty Alliance, trade unions Unite, Unison and GMB Scotland and local Labour councilors to launch a campaign for a Living Wage for council workers in West Dunbartonshire. A Living Wage is the level of pay which will provide an adequate living standard for a worker and their family, lifting them out of poverty. The Living Wage has been set at £7 an hour for the year beginning April 2009. The Living Wage is something that employers should pay, but it is not a legal minimum like the National Minimum Wage. Earlier this year...

The re-building of Dumbarton Academy is one of the most significant local issues. I believe that every child and every teacher, and indeed, every community has the right to a modern fit for purpose school. Previously other schools in this constituency received substantial investment and have either been refurbished or rebuilt to meet the needs of modern learning. Dumbarton Academy deserves this same level of investment. In 2007 the SNP promised to match Labour school building programme "brick for brick". Thus far they have failed to do this and as a result Dumbarton Academy pupils, teachers and...
