Better Local Buses

We Support Better Bus Services

Bus services in Scotland are not good enough. There has been a failure in the market forces which have dominated the bus industry since de-regulation in 1986.

It's time for a fairer deal on buses. That's why I am supporting Charlie Gordon's proposal for the Regulation of Bus Services (Scotland) Bill.

This Bill will make it easier for local councils to step in and regulate services by putting franchises for local bus services out to tender.

The Bill will also extend free bus travel to people on the lower rate of Disability Living Allowance, as well as allowing community transport to accept free bus passes.

Around £300 million of public money in Scotland goes to support bus services. We are all entitled to a better say on bus services and standards. Regulation will give us that say.

We need your help in gaining support for this Bill in the Scottish Parliament. To make the Bill go forward, it needs the support of 18 MSPs from two of the other major parties at Holyrood. I am asking you to:
