BAILLIE BACKS CARDROSS DESIGNER FOR TOP AWARD

LOCAL MSP Jackie Baillie is praising a talented designer from Cardross after she has been nominated for a prestigious title.

Linda Macdonald has been trading in the village since 1997 and now supplies a number of stores across the United Kingdom including retail giant John Lewis.

The talented jewellery maker studied at Glasgow School of Art and is known for her floral designs using both silver and gold.

Jackie will receive a tour of Linda’s design studios next month to learn first hand how each piece is made.

Linda has been nominated for the British Jewellery Association’s Designer of the Year award, which recognises a designer who has consistently produced the most commercially viable designs to raise the profile of British design.

The award is voted for by the public until 26th November, with the winner’s announced at a ceremony in Birmingham on 6th December. Jackie is encouraging local people to visit Linda’s website (www.lindamacdonaldjewellery.com) to add their support and help put this area on the map as the forerunner in British jewellery design.

Jackie Baillie said:

“I am delighted that Linda has been shortlisted for this award. Having stopped in to the shop recently I know how exquisite her designs really are.

“I hope local residents will show their support for this talented young woman and vote for her work via Linda’s own website and Facebook page.

“It is important that our young designers from this area are recognised and their talents supported by the local community.

“I look forward to learning more about how Linda creates her pieces when I get to tour her design workshop.”
